Joe is an enthusiastic facilitator and has an aptitude for holding energetic, playful, safe spaces for people to express themselves and learn. Whether that is leading a group of performers through training, or running intro workshops for non-performers, he brings a generosity of spirit, and enthusiasm to support people on their learning journey as well as to have a fun, silly and deep experience.
Joe can arrange a workshop to last 2 hours up to 2 days.
Joe can travel to teach a workshop if there is any interest in that location.
All workshops can consist of groups between 6-12 people
Clown
Joe will effortlessly guide the group through a series of clown games and exercises to help them naturally drop into a state of play and openness. Joe will draw on movement practices, mindfulness, and facilitation skills. This workshop is welcome to anyone, regardless of skill level. Whether you’ve never done clown before and you’re not a performer or you’re a seasoned clown, actor, stand up etc.
Butoh
This workshop is for anyone interested in Butoh. Joe will use exercises that support participants to drop into a grounded and empty internal landscape, from which they can allow the Butoh dance to come through. This will then lead onto improvisational sessions where the participants will create and express through more open performance showings. This workshop may include working within site specific locations.
*Note: The Butoh and Clown workshops can be combined to explore a new form of Butoh-Clown that I work with in my own performance practice.
Nature Play
Nature Play workshops will be held outside in a place of nature, most likely a woodland. This is the most wholistic, integrative and diverse workshop. Joe will lead the group through a series of exercises that allow participants connect with themselves, each other and to drop into a deep connection with the surrounding nature. Joe with draw on mindfulness, play, movement, and theatre exercises to find a creative, fun and deep way for the participants to draw inspiration and communion with the environment, from which they can create, express, be witnessed and witness others through site specific performance, in intimate dialogue with self, nature and the group. This workshop is intended to be highly accessible to non-performers.
Physical/Devised/Improvised Theatre
This workshop can be adapted to the needs of the group – delving into a more physical, movement-based exploration of theatre through ensemble work, Lecoq, Grotowski, Laban, and Viewpoints training. Or it can go down a more drama improv route, with text work, character work, games, and scenes. Or a combination of both.

Hire a character cabaret or walkabout act for your event!
Mr Sway is a mysterious and magical creature, with as much confusion in his eyes, as he has awe. He cuts through the everyday, mundane world like sword fish on acid. With an intoxicating absurdity, Mr Sway plays a subversive symphony of Butoh-Clown in response to site and audience.
The Toilet Gremlin is a vile creature, born out of the sewers of Bristol. He dwells in the bogs and pipes of your lavatory and comes out at night to scare your children. But really all he wants is to tell you his sweet sweet poetry and invite you into his cubicle for a heart to heart. “Dance with the turds of generations past. The logs of our ancestors reside in this very chasm. A wishing bowl of mysteries undiscovered unflushed, unfathomed, unshat back into the nether regions of your carbunculous anus!”
Based on Ivor Cutler’s character of the same name, The Gravy Man is a dirty scoundrel with a big heart and an even bigger pot of gravy. Anything and everything goes in his magic pot of gravy and he ladles it out to any that will imbibe on the insidiously mystical juice. The Gravy Man can be seen at festivals, immersive venues and Cabarets, cackling (sometimes on roller skates) and putting people in his gravy tub. (No Gravy or food substance are used)
The Spuds are lost in the big city, with nothing but a suitcase full of spuds to aid them. Sometimes they pretend to be tourists, or spies but their real mission is to work out what the hell is going on and why they are here. In truth, their purpose is non-existent, and they bumble through the world in a state of gormless passion filled meaningless. The Secret Potatoes is an Absurd comedy double act walkabout, festivals, events, and the streets. It draws on clowning, character improv and slapstick comedy. Their mockumentary ‘SPUDS’ is being developed for Autumn 2024. “Power to the Potato!”
Sir Zargop is from the future! Or is he? He has come to warn the audience of many grave and important truths and factoids from the future, whilst battling his evil twin, who keeps ruining all his hard work in this time period when Zargop is elsewhere. Sir Zargop is an absurdo trash clown act from the future, fit for the Cabarets and Festivals of our era.
Gleeb Gloob are an idiotic Street Theatre or Cabaret double act where anything can happen and probably will. (picture of both Gleeb and Gloom together is on it's way!)
