Joe D’orso is a London-based actor, comedian and multi-disciplinary theatre practitioner based in London. A strange, and playful theatre idiot, he revels in the creation of ridiculous and absurd characters and performances. Joe’s practice is driven by a desire to subvert. To rattle the cage and push the boundaries of theatre, performance, and live art, but most importantly to create connection with other humans.
Joe’s creative interests are diverse, but mostly lie in exploring the ridiculous, absurd, grotesque, and subversive. He enjoys melding several disciplines, dreaming up ridiculous and peculiar ideas, and finding creative and powerful ways to bring them to life for an audience. He’s passionate about creating off the wall, surreal and whimsical worlds to cook up kooky characters and immerse an audience in something utterly bizarre and ephemeral.
Joe creates performances in non-theatrical spaces such as the street, derelict sites and in nature, where he creates site specific, immersive work. His foundational performance practices over the past 10 years have been in Clown, Butoh, Improv, Physical Theatre and Capoeira, leading to a fascination in the intersection of Theatre and Movement. He works inter disciplinarily through Clown, Butoh, Bouffant, Puppetry, Laban, Lecoq, Physical/Devised Theatre and Contact Impro. Colliding practices to create something radically experimental.
